The Hacked Existence team is once again hosting the telecom based CTF. The CTF will is hosted on live VoIP lines routed through a modified asterisk PBX. This allows you to dial in to the CTF from a real world telephone routable phone number allowing you to hunt the PBX for flags. The flags are based around utilizing historically accurate tactics, techniques, and procedures to manipulate emulated old school switching systems. The purpose of our contest is to bring awareness around the still existing weaknesses in our telecom infrastructure and Interactive Voice Response Systems. Ideally visitors to our contest area will participate in the CTF allowing them to get a better understanding of telecom hacking in the year 2025 as well as a respect for the art of phreaking from yesteryears.
Creating Your Account
The first thing you need to do is created your CTFd account. While you don't need the account to call the PBX you won't be able to claim any flags, so where's the fun in that.
To make an account click Register and fill out the form. Thats it. You can now click on the challenges and begin trying to solve the flags.
Once you've created your account you'll notice a little key followed by 6 digits in the top right of CTFd. This is your pin. Some challenges in our phone system allow you to claim the flag directly from your phone! You'll be prompted for your pin after solving a flag and we'll take care of the rest.
The Phone Number
Unless stated otherwise all telphony challenges must be completed using the number on the home page, you can't miss it. That means if you see a number like 416-555-1234, you need to first dial the PhreakMe number, then enter that number as an extension.
There, however, some challenges that don't use the phone, most notably the BBS challenges.
The BBS
This year an entire BBS is at your desposal, filled with the best hacking, cracking, and phreaking textz from all over the world. Keep in mind that the solutions to some of the phone challenges might requires you to use the BBS for help.
Questions
If you have any questions, or problem feel free to come by our booth, we're happy to help. If the question is dumb though, you'll have to take a shot of malort (just kidding, we're not allowed to give away free booze)
